Ben Loman, the fortunate brother of Willy who struck extreme wealth upon discovering diamonds in Africa, is an unclear vision in Willy's imagination. He is the esteemed figure of American success whom Willy regards highly and wants to imprint his qualities on Biff and Happy. Willy frequently recounts Ben's story about how he 'hit it big' with little effort, giving him the wrong idea on how his sons can easily do the same, consequently putting the pressure on them. Ben doesn't show much affection towards his brother's family and when Willy confides in him regarding his plans to commit suicide, the reception confirms his indifference. Nevertheless, Ben still stands as Willy's role model and support, especially as Willy gets lonelier.
